Recently I got lucky again on Ebay. This lens created in 1949 was on sale for $80 because the metal was heavily tarnished and the focus was stuck. However, the glass looked absolutely perfect. It appeared that this was part of an estate sale.
I quickly placed the order, and it only took about 90 minutes to clean up the lens body with jewelry polish, and to loosen the 70 year old grease with a hair dryer. Now this lens looks like it was created only a few years ago, and the focus is smooth.
I am excited to see what I can create with this lens. The bokeh, saturation, contrast and rendition of the Biotars is legendary. Here is the first shot I captured with this to test it out.
